Black Feminist. Sociologist.

Writer. Public Speaker. Mentor.

I am Dr. Letisha Engracia Cardoso Brown (she/her), an Assistant Professor of Sociology and affiliate of the Africana Studies and Women’s, Gender, and Sexualites Studies programs at the University of Cincinnati. I hold a B.A. in Africana Studies from the University of Northern Colorado, as well as M.A./PhD. in sociology from the University of Texas at Austin. My research examines the lived realities of Black women and girls in sports, education, and girlhood. I also conduct research in the areas of food studies, health inequalities, and race/racism more broadly. As a researcher, teacher, and public intellectual, my goal is to create and disseminate knowledge that encourages reflexive praxis, encourages action, and inspires positive social change. I am a freelance writer on topics related to sports, as well as race, gender, and society, and am available for public talks, podcast appearances, and guest lectures.
